{"id":14,"date":"2013-08-22T15:23:46","date_gmt":"2013-08-22T15:23:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wheatlandhomes.com\/blog\/?p=14"},"modified":"2013-08-27T15:24:59","modified_gmt":"2013-08-27T15:24:59","slug":"custom-design","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.wheatlandhomes.com\/blog\/custom-design\/","title":{"rendered":"Custom Home Designing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Conventional wisdom is usually correct, you need to realize that it became conventional because after all, it worked in the past.\u00a0 But although conventional thinking usually eliminates mistakes, it also prevents the &#8220;outside the lines&#8221; thinking that is necessary for truly GREAT ideas.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s look at an example:\u00a0 Wheatland Custom Homes and Remodeling was asked to design a home on a corner lot with building envelope and slope challenges.\u00a0 There is the existing street on the narrow side, new street on the wide side.\u00a0 The lot slopes the wrong way, because of the building envelope and storm water inlet, the garage needs to go on the low side.\u00a0 And it is an infill lot between newer homes and older classic style homes.<\/p>\n<p>Conventional wisdom says that the house needs to be part of the new home community, with the front door facing the new street.\u00a0 And design some kind of basement garage, a bilevel would be perfect!\u00a0 But really, a bilevel?\u00a0 This is 2013, not 1970.\u00a0 Hold on, this is about custom home designing, so why must the front door face the wide side of the lot, why can&#8217;t it face the narrow side, the existing street?\u00a0 Why can&#8217;t the new house imitate the character of the existing classic homes?\u00a0 The driveway will enter off the new street, with the garage dropping a couple steps to follow the grade. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wheatlandhomes.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/wg17a-farmhouse.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-17\" alt=\"wg17a farmhouse\" src=\"http:\/\/www.wheatlandhomes.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/wg17a-farmhouse-300x235.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"235\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.wheatlandhomes.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/wg17a-farmhouse-300x235.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.wheatlandhomes.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/wg17a-farmhouse-1024x803.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>And since a couple more steps would be helpful, let&#8217;s design a stepped down family room between the house and garage.\u00a0 Wow, this might just work!!\u00a0 And oh yeah, the cost is critical.\u00a0 How about the total package of $235,000?\u00a0 Might just work in Susquehanna Township!<\/p>\n<p>For creative solutions to your home building or remodeling needs in south central Pennsylvania, contact\u00a0 rick@WheatlandHomes.com<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Conventional wisdom is usually correct, you need to realize that it became conventional because after all, it worked in the past.\u00a0 But although conventional thinking usually eliminates mistakes, it also prevents the &#8220;outside the lines&#8221; thinking that is necessary for truly GREAT ideas.
